Introduction to Feng Shui

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is a very old and important study. It is about how our environment affects us. Feng Shui means “wind” and “water.” Wind comes from the movement of air, and air comes from water. This is why it is called Feng Shui.

How Feng Shui Affects Us

Inside our bodies, there is also air, or “Qi.” This Qi changes about 50 times every day. Too much or too little Qi is not good. For example, in summer, we close the windows and use air conditioning. If the air inside the room does not move, we feel uncomfortable. But if there is too much wind, we also feel bad. So, it is important to have the right amount of Qi for us to feel good and think clearly.

Changing Feng Shui

There are two main ways to change Feng Shui: “Luantou” and “Liqi.”

  • Luantou: This is about how we place things around us. For example, where we put our bed or furniture. This can change how air moves in a room. If you put your bed against a wall, the air moves differently than if the bed is in the middle of the room.
  • Liqi: This is about how time changes the Qi in a place. The Qi in our house can change every year or even every day because the Earth and the stars are always moving. So, it is important to change the position of things in our house according to time to have good Feng Shui.

Simple Ways to Improve Feng Shui

  1. Stop Fast Air Flow: If the front door and a window are in a straight line, air can move too fast through the house. You can use a screen to slow down the air and keep good Qi inside.
  2. Move the Bed: If your bed is in a corner where air does not move much, it is not good for health. Move the bed so there is space between the bed and the wall to improve air flow.
  3. Avoid Bad Energy: If there is a big tree or a power pole right outside your door, it can bring bad Qi into your house. You can change the position of the door to fix this.

These are some basic ideas about Feng Shui. If you want to learn more, there are many books and articles that can help you understand this interesting and useful study better.
